Nickelodeon has just greenlit a new animated series from Avatar: the Last Airbender creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. According to the network’s president, Brown Johnson, the series– currently titled The Legend of Korra– will be expanding the mythology of the Avatar franchise, setting it roughly 70 years after the original show’s events with a whole new cast of characters.
“Mike and Bryan have imagined a compelling new story inspired by the Airbender mythology that they so brilliantly crafted when the TV series began,” Johnson said. “This new avatar is not only a girl, but also hot-headed, independent and ready to take on the world.”
The Legend of Korra
The Legend of Korra follows the adventures of a “passionate, rebellious and fearless” teenager from the Southern Water Tribe, a girl named Korra. Having already mastered three of the four elements (Earth, Water, and Fire), she seeks to master the final element of Air. Her travels eventually lead her to the metropolis of Republic City, an epicenter for the modern Avatar world. Although a thriving society of benders and non-benders alike, Republic City is also ridden with crime, including an anti-bending rebellion that is gaining momentum. Under the guidance of Aang’s son, Tenzin, Korra begins her airbending training as she confronts the dangers ahead of her.
The Legend of Korra will be produced at Nickelodeon Animation Studios and is expected to begin airing sometime in 2011.

I don’t know what to expect. & I’m not sure what to think. I really want to know what exactly happened after the war. Ya know? Aang and Kattara’s life together, & Toph, Sokka, the old gang. What happened? The new story line seems kinda, weird. “Anti-benders.” So are the people that can’t bend trying to take over the world? That seems ridiculous. I dunno. However, I do like that the new Avatar is a girl. Hehe:3 & I wanna see Aang’s son. But I’m not gonna be to mad about this whole cuz, like it bothers me because everything is changing, and its not the charaters we all know and love, but Aang lives through Korra. They’re the same person, so hopefully we can see more of Aang, with like the Spirt World trips and such. I hope Zuko has a son. That’d be amazing. I love Zuko.

i think this season is going to be amazing and i think it also might be a bit more mature cause think about it the youngest person who watches this show is about 6 so the’ll be 12 by the time it comes out so its probably gonna go from TV Y tp TV PG is my guess so it might be more violent and stuff, no the the extent of nitruto but maybe Dragon ball z violence but yet again this is nick

I think they should make the first episode like in Book 2 “Tales of Ba Sing Se” but instead show what everyone is doing after the war, everyone would have a little story, from major characters (Like Aang, Sokka, and Katara) to the minor-major characters (like Ty Lee and Mai) or just do a little episode to sum up the questions created from the series finale, and show what happened later on. That would be great!

Well in my opinion since the avatar died then was brought back to life shouldnt the new avatar have been born when he died the first time so then there would have been 2 avatars… Maybe its just me but that would be more exciting.

i’m realy not sure what to expect… but then again i’m very open mided. i was hoping for there to be more with aang when he was avatar… prehaps a problem with a 5th element war… that would be cool. but i will look forward to 2011 and hope for the best.

awww. i was hoping to see more of aang as the avatar after the war, but im just happy that they’re making new episodes at all, even if they’re about korra. wouldnt everyone from before still be alive? (besides aang) they’d be old, but still alive? id like to see them in one of the episodes. i really wanna see aangs son too. im gonna miss aang though, even though he will make appereances in the spirit world, ill still miss him. (even if he is korras past life). and who will be fire lord now? will zuko have a son? AH so many questions. oh well. its gonna be a long wait for me until they air the new episodes. so excited!
but i hope they do find a way to fit the old characters in the episodes somehow. somehow.

I think the creators should continue the original series because there are a lot of material that is just left dwindling in the air like zuko’s mom and how do they rebuild the world and the air bending population, the list goes on and on there is just so much left why end it when it with all this information missing.

I’d like to see them sum up un-answered questions before they start a new season. Some being how everything progress’s along after the war is over, not to mention the relationship between Aang and Katara. But what i wasn’t sure about is if them mentioning that Aang’s son is training Korra (and Korra obviously being the Avatar of this age) implies that Aang has past away?!?! Like many other people i will miss the old characters of the past seasons, but i am equally excited to see how they might integrate the old characters into the new show, whether that be in flash backs, or trips to the spirit world to see the possibly deceased Aang. In the end i still feel that no matter what happens, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and everyone else involved with the Avatar series has done an AMAZING job and the future for these people can only get brighter!

Guys this is Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko of course their going to reveal what happened after the war and I’m quite sure that we’re going to get a thorough history, throughout the series; as to what happened to all our favourite characters. Avatar was awesome because it had a beginning, middle and an end, so I’m glad that they didn’t continue into another series.
Looking forward to the new series with the awesome comedy free loving attitude which we loved from the first series.

I think it’s stupid that the serie starts out with the avatar already having mastered 3 of 4 elements. This will dramatically cut down the season range of the show, and it will be a bit more boring for the viewers. ‘Oh.. she’ll get out. She already masters 3 elements’ Avatar: the last airbender will stay my favourite seasons, no matter what.

I don’t like the whole idea of this new avatar. It’s basically repeating the first show but replacing the fire lord with anti-benders, difference is The Last Airbender was great and entertaining to watch. This is just going to be predictable and no way as original as before. These new characters will either be annoying or splitting images of the old ones. Why even bother making a new show when The Last Airbender could have easily been continued. E.g Zuko: Where’s my mother? … (The end). It’s stupid. Another thing, making this avatar start out with 3 elements already mastered sounds really stupid, it won’t take more than 1 season to learn 1 element just because of some anti-benders who have no skills what so ever. Unless it’s only going to be 1 season long. When I read the description for The Last Airbender it made me want to watch. Forgetting it, I read about this new one and it wouldn’t stand out for me. It’s just boring and complicated for those havn’t watched The Last Airbender, “benders”. This storyboard doesn’t seem to be very well thought out either. In The Last Airbender, Aang had to learn the elements because there was a war where everyone depended on him. However with Korra the only reason she is learning the 1 element is because she doesn’t like anti-benders, nothing depends on her. Call me negative, but even though this creation was by the same people, it’s still like a cheap rip off The Last Airbender.

Well, The Last Airbender was great, it had a begining and then it had an ending. That’s just how proper stories should be, so WHY is there going to be a continued story? Begining-End-Another begining?!?!?! That really is a total screw up. The whole point in making an ending is so it’s ENDED! Or maybe the definition on “The End” meant something else? You people are crazy to even think about making a new version of it or whatever. And it sounds stupid with no exitement too! Plus you sort of have to watch The Last Airbender to understand what this Legend of Korra is about… Which should never need to happen. This is like adding a new part to Lord of The Rings, it’s stupid and shouldn’t be done, then what do people do? THEY DO IT! Why people do these things I will never know.

Jezz, it never seasons to amaze me how information can change and distort so quickly. When the third season ended, there was a bunch of talk about possibly making a fourth one. Even the creatures talked about it, but they could have just been trolling.
-Also the info on this new series, had gone through some revamping. Originally there was no immediate threat mentioned, rather the hero (the new avatar) just wanted to master all the elements. And to do that, they needed to find Aang’s child. Who was at the new resorted south pole, helping restore it.
