Chipmunk:
I like how each one of the bending types have a special technique to conquor if you are powerful enough that other bendings cant do. it shows how powerful the members of them are like: Like with earth bending if you so powerful you can also metal bend and with water bending you can blood bend if you are that strong and with fire bendners if you are so powerful, you can shoot lightening…the team took their bending to the next levels cause they are SO powerful…but i wonder with the air benders, what kinda special power could be performed if you are a stronger bender…anyone have any suggestions???
Posted on December 25th, 2009 at 7:47 am
Chipmunk:
and why are they so scary??? they are some of the most powerful benders in the world…lol…it shows the childern side to them…i think its cute…
while Katara was telling her story: AANG- “OK! Now im getting scared”…lol….

This is one of the most memorable episodes for me. Bloodbending is a pretty sick idea, but quite ingenious too and can be really useful if you use it right. What a pity Katara never uses it after this episode. Wouldn’t it be funny to see the Firelord doing her bidding? And Hamma spent a long time perfecting this technique while Katara successfully used it to conquer her in the first try. Goes to show how good Katara is as a waterbender.
Posted on January 15th, 2010 at 5:49 am
jojo:
actually, katara did use bloodbending after this. once. in the southern raiders episode on that commanding officer who she thought killed her mother.

Zanth:
Oh, comon people! Seriously, no one ever considered this stuff before? I mean, the lightning for the fire nation was a stretch as lightning isn’t really fire….but I was thinking about “blood bending” EPISODES ago…i mean, people are, what, like 75-80% water? I was wondering why no one came up with that. And when Toph was captured, I was going “hello? Metal comes from the earth!” Pretty obvious if you ask me…
Posted on February 6th, 2010 at 1:58 am
Michael:
@ Zanth
When you can bend water, air fire and earth then you can criticise them for not working it out.
Also its not supposed to be modern science and they are only kids. 75-80% water?? ok then thats believable

Alice:
The cytoplasm of our blood is mostly water, because it needs to be fluid like in order for the blood cells to travel faster. This fact might be obvious now, but this show is set to be in the ancient times, thus allowing them not to know this- they are kids out of school you know.
On a different note, blood bending seems like one of the most powerful tools a water bender can use. But just like everything powerful, it can be used for evil things in the wrong hands. People can do great things, but those things can be terrible or good.
Katara, most likely won’t use blood bending (I never watched the show before) because of her character unless something major comes up. But now that she knows this technique she does have an ultimate weapon up her sleeve, so that when great danger comes, not everything is lost.

what’s wrong with bloodbending??.. katara, you should feel great about this.. not all water benders know or can do it!.. you are very blessed!

Lol wonder if theres a bloodbending fetish
Posted on May 1st, 2010 at 8:17 pm
Mellon Lord:
Actually, blood-bending is a wrong name for this technique. Blood only carries nutrition and oxygen throughout our body. The movement, caused by muscles, is controlled by our nerve system with a kind of electric impulses. A real blood-bending would allow to stop the flow of blood, thus causing devastating internal damage and could lead to death (it would resemble heart attack, but with heart still beating).
Anyway, as someone suggested earlier, human body consists mainly of water, which makes the technique from this episode possible.
And one more thing – it is just a fantasy cartoon, it doesn’t need to have perfect explanations for everything, as long as the episodes are good.

Iroh Is Awesome:
To everybody saying that bloodbending is a great skill and so on… it is great but what you are forgetting is that it can only be done under a full moon. So it is not something they can do any time they want, but only about once a month. So technically it can’t really benefit Katara if she is in danger, unless it happens to be on the night of a full moon. Lightning and metal bending can be done many times in day or night, any day of the year. Bloodbending isn’t like that at all. Just clearing that up for everybody!
See ya! Oh and Iroh is by far the best character in this show. <3 xoxo
Posted on July 3rd, 2010 at 9:55 pm
Anan:
Lol someone mentioned every power got its ways to do stuff related to the Element they use
And how i see it Airbenders control some stuff that more dangerous than anything
Airbending can controll air in body and make it out of the body and in the body in more that it needs that will make it Explode and making Air benders control Air they can forbid Air on fire benders that the fire wont even light up so Fire benders are the weekest…
Posted on July 6th, 2010 at 7:18 am
I don't care 'bout this name.:
You know, I agree with “Iroh Is Awesome” on saying that, “Oh and Iroh is by far the best character in this show.” He is, actually. Because in the tales on Ba Sing Se, he helped people, even gave hope to what seemed a hopeless man. In the end, he sat down by a tree and started crying. Because it was his son’s birthday.
P.S. His son died on the 100-Day siege of Ba Sing Se. Since then, he just retired and left the military. For good.

Chipmunk:
Powerful earth benders can bend metal, fire benders have lightning, and water benders have this, but I think REALLY strong air benders could bend SOUND.
Would it work? A sound relates to a wave compressing air in a specific fashion–control the air compressions, control the sound, right? A little out there, and not as useful in a physical sense as the other bonus bendings, but meh.

y r loads ov u complainin abou bloodbending??????? its a fuckin brill idea!!! Kitara shud hav thought it 2 Aang so he cud use it on the firelord. also Princesss Yue is evil. she let Hama almost kill Sokka! she brobably saw Sokka kissing Sookie and wanted revenge!
also, replying to FirelordOzai. u actually tink ur DE firelord???? sad, sad, very sad…..

Charlie:
See now, Hama has the moral high ground here. Those sons of platypus-bears tried to wipe out her entire culture- and they’re still at war with her people. She didn’t even kill the civilians- she imprisoned them. A little creepy, but an act of war and very understandable. If Katara and co. were more like her, they’d have a better shot at Ozai. Also, I saw this possibility from the very first, and dismissed it as an “Eragon” possibility- that is, it could be done if you took the powers of the hero to the logical extreme, but in order to keep the combat nice and tidy, you suspend disbelief so that instead of two waterbenders having an invisible struggle to see which one can drain all of the other’s brain fluid out of their ears, you get big splashy icicle fights. Another such possibility- Combustion Man has metal limbs. Toph can bend metal.

MooMooGirl:
This is for Chipmunk who asked the question: All benders take their bending to the next level. For example: Powerful Earthbenders can bend metal, powerful waterbenders can bend blood, and powerful firebenders can shoot lightning. But what can airbenders do?
Well, maybe airbenders coul move inantimate objects. Like, for example, people. Get it?
Posted on July 21st, 2010 at 8:08 pm
o_o:
@Chipmunk
Hmm, maybe airbenders could manipulate with a persons breathing. Like maybe suck the life out of them, you know, like take away their oxygen so they wont be able to breath. thats pretty agonizing, kinda like drowning but that would be raw if they could do that.

if there is blood bending, the person will die immediatly die because too much blood pressure and not consistent circulation of blood, rupturing of miniscule blood vessels, etc.
If ur a waterbender u can just dry ppl out. But if ur an airbender you can suck the air out of ppls lungs. too many ways to kill.

I was wondering, in the last episode, where Katara and Toph was in jail, and Toph was crying, why didnt Katara waterbend with Toph’s tears? Instead of her own sweat??
This episode was really creepy, but I think that old woman is just emotionally challenged because of the fire nation, just like people would normally would, they will do anything for people to stop the fire nation

Th3 4V474R:
The reason Katara won’t use bloodbending, besides her finding it morally unjust, is because practicing the art eventually causes the practitioner to lose themselves to madness. Sure you could use it for good for a while, but as your sanity slowly erodes away you’d end up doing some pretty fucked up things. Things way worse then locking a bunch of random ass people in a mountain, lol. I see waterbending as the strongest element most due to the hax that is bloodbending, Air bending has crazy potential but their goody two shoes ways disallow them from accessing it. Think about, Aang could manipulate air current to create vacuums where one cannot breath and fire cannot exist, crash the air currents together creating mass friction creating fire or even lightning, force air into cracks in the earth and raise rocks, and splash water around guiding it inside tunnels of air. The air nomads had the potential to be a people full of wannabe avatars, lol. And it makes sense (to me) considering how spiritual they are. Plus if they weren’t so passive, they could sent out air blasts with enough force to cause one chest to explode. Oh yeah, now that I think about it, Earthbenders should technically be able to ‘bend’ the very human body as their are substantial amounts of ‘earth’ in all of us.
Anywho, despite the repercussions I wouldn’t hesitate to master bloodbending, nor ‘humanbending’. Sorry for the length, gears got ta’ grindin’.
Posted on August 19th, 2010 at 9:15 pm
Joex:
I always got the impression that the technique doesn’t actually invlove blood, but rather just nick named blood bending. I thought the benders were manipulating the water in the rest of the human body rather than the actual blood itself.

…my favorite episode of book 3 or even maybe the whole avatar series…
this episode show the impact of war to one’s mind and perception.
Hama is right and we should be able to relate to how emotional she get looking at how firebenders treated them in prison…so i think its kinda reasonable that she gets mad.
And even though bloodbending kinda mad and sound morally unjust, its a great technique to use agains another bender….
however, even though its a good skill…it needs a full moon power to really use it to the maximum….
the idea of bloodbending itself is amazing…
best episode in avatar…
