A coup is staged in Ba Sing Se by Azula and the Dai Li now under her control. In the climax of the plan the Earth Kingdom falls, Aang is critically injured and Zuko betrays his uncle. The group escapes along with the Earth King and Bosco but must now form their battle plans from scratch.

though i was thinking that if they made a 4th i think it could go deeper into the charatures pasts and futures before and after the war

Loved the episode, although I was gutted when Zuko betrayed Iroh and Katara, I did kind of see it coming. Zuko has yet to get over his confused feelings for his father, he craves his attention and affection, and can’t reconcile himself to see waht a bad man he is. I look forward to enjoying the third Book and seeing how Zuko deals with getting ‘everything he’s ever wanted’ and whether or nopt what he thought he wanted is waht really matters to him.
As for the Katara/Zuko moment, I don’t think Katara ever really sees Zuko romantically (sorry to Zutara fans, they are cute together I know =P) When she offers to heal him with the spirit water, she is being compassionate, responding to the good in him that she can see. It’s as IRoh said when he described the Water Tribe people to Zuko in ‘Bitter Work’.
@Charlie:
I agree totally with you on how Katara must be feeling. I felt so sorry for her and Aang, Aang when he tried to give her up and unblock his 7th chakra and get into the avatar state, and her for after Azula struck him. Katara looked so broken and lost when she saw Aang fall, although I did manage a teary smile when she caught him.
True Kataang moment at the end there, there developing relationship has really grown on me throughout the series thus far, and I am astounded by their intimacy (the way the hold each other, care for each other and protect each other) and for those who think it’s like a brother/sister relationship I point out that the way Katar and Aang interact is VERY different from the way Katara and Sokka interact.
Just Wish that Aang would have that conversation with Katara, explain to her about his seventh Chakra…
This is a great episode, sad and desolate ending, but I think it is genius in its execution. I think that it’s very important that we see Aang more or less chose Katara over the power of being avatar, and I love the Aang/Iroh conversation about it. Perfect!!!

Also I’d like to think that Aang and Katara would have bee able to beat Zuko and Azula alone, when they bend together the two fo them make such a great team, and Aangs mastery of three disciplines now makes him more than a match for Azula and her crazy blue fire and Lightning. If only it weren’t for those hundred traitorous Earth bending Dai Li…
And Poor Iroh, I feel so sad for him, yet I love that he sacrificed himself so that Katara and Aang could get away…

Do any of you guys reckon that the other characters have sort of reincarnations? Raikou married his bestfriends sister (sokka and katara anybody?) and in the next series, there is definetly a BeFong relation i heard… and there is definitely romance in the next series…
But they are sooo stpid coz the only origional character in there (not including flashbacks) is Azula… ARGGHHHH… i guess she has a lot of character potential with the whole insane mother in the mirror bit….
