The gang continues looking for Appa, so Long Feng tries to throw them off by sending Jet to make them leave the city. They meet up with Longshot and Smellerbee and realize Jet was brainwashed. Elsewhere, Zuko discovers that Aang is in the city and begins his own search for Appa.

Jet may have been a jerk in his previous episode but I thought it was sooooo sad when he told Katara that he would be okay and then, as they were walking out, Toph says, “he’s lying.” That was so sad!
But I’m happy they found Appa!

Oh no, poor Jet! he may have been a jerk, but i thought he’d truly changed for the better. although katara shows anger towords him, she gives off a fewsmall hints that she still has a crush on him. But i was so happy 2 c Appa again! he’s soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!

as far as the show goes, I believe the creators killed Jet off so he couldn’t interfere with any of the emotional connections later on (specifically Aang and Katara and perhaps Zuko and Katara as well) in season 3. When it comes to getting rid of emotional baggage characters, a moving and stirring death is usually the way they go. Sad but true, that’s why I agree with you in ahting thier ‘type’ of character. Jet himself was pretty awesome tho, could never figure out how serious he was about Katara however.
I do really love this episode, despite Jet’s sad demise, the whole sequence with Appa, Zuko and Iroh was fantastic. Loved Appa’s return to the group as well, and you can see how much Appa means to Aang in that moment when they reunite. I think Appa signifies to Aang all taht is left of his people (the air nomads) and Appa was and remains his deepest connection to them. Very touching to see, especially since it was done so well. =D
