Avatar The Last Airbender Movie Plot: [via wiki]

Fourteen-year-old Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her fifteen-year-old brother, Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), are near a river at the South Pole. While hunting, they discover an iceberg that shoots a beam of light into the sky. Inside of the iceberg is a boy named Aang (Noah Ringer) and a flying bison named Appa. Unknown to them, Aang is the long lost Avatar – the only person on the planet able to “bend” all four elements. One hundred years have passed since the Fire Nation has declared war on the other three nations of Air, Water and Earth in their attempt to conquer the world.

Zuko (Dev Patel), an exiled prince of the Fire Nation, is on a quest to find the Avatar and bring him as prisoner to his father, Fire Lord Ozai (Cliff Curtis). Seeing the light that appeared from Aang’s release, Zuko and some Fire Nation soldiers arrive at the Southern Water Tribe to demand the villagers hand over the Avatar. Aang reveals himself as he surrenders himself to Zuko on the condition that he agrees to leave the village alone. On the ship, Aang is tested by Zuko’s Uncle Iroh (Shaun Toub) to confirm him to be the Avatar. After being informed that he is to be their prisoner for passing the test, Aang escapes using his glider and flies to his flying bison brought by Katara and Sokka. Aang and his new friends visit the Southern Air Temple and he learns that he was in the ice for a whole century and that the Fire Nation wiped out all Air Nomads, including his guardian, Monk Gyatso. In despair, he enters the Avatar state and finds himself in the spirit world where he encounters a dragon spirit that tells him to make his way to the Northern Water Tribe to master Water Bending.

While at a small Earth Kingdom town controlled by the Fire Nation, Aang’s group is arrested because Katara tries to help a young boy from a patrol. They incite a rebellion by reminding the disgruntled Earthbenders that earth was given to them. Katara is given a Waterbending scroll that she uses to perfect her Waterbending and help Aang learn as they make their way to the Northern Water Tribe and liberate more Earth Kingdom villages in the process.

During a side track to the Northern Air Temple on his own, Aang is betrayed by a peasant and captured by a group of Fire Nation archers, led by Admiral Zhao (Aasif Mandvi), a Fire Nation Admiral appointed by the Fire Lord. However, a masked marauder, the “Blue Spirit”, helps Aang escape from his imprisonment. Zuko is the masked vigilante, and Zhao realizes this. He arranges to kill the prince. Zuko survives the attempt on his life with Iroh’s help. He sneaks aboard Zhao’s lead ship as his fleet departs for the Northern Water Tribe to capture the Avatar. Upon arriving, Aang’s group is welcomed warmly by the citizens of the Northern Water Tribe. Immediately, Sokka befriends the Northern Water Tribe princess, Yue (Seychelle Gabriel). After a few agreements, a waterbending master, Pakku (Francis Guinan), teaches Aang waterbending.

Soon, the Fire Nation arrives and Zhao begins his attack while Zuko begins his search for the Avatar on his own, capturing Aang as he enters the spirit world to find the dragon spirit to give him the wisdom to defeat the Fire Nation. Returning to his body, Aang battles Zuko before Katara freezes him. As the battle escalates, Iroh watches Zhao capture the moon spirit Tui, with which its water spirit counterpart had assumed the form of a fish. Despite Iroh’s pleas, Zhao kills Tui to strip the Waterbenders of their powers and abilities to Waterbend. Yue explains to everyone that the moon spirit gave her life, willing to give it back as she dies in the process. With the tables turned, Zhao is drowned by Waterbenders after Zuko and Iroh leave him to his fate. Aang uses the ocean to drive the armada back. Aang now fully embraces his destiny as the Avatar as he, Katara and Sokka prepare to continue their journey to the Earth Kingdom to find an earthbending teacher for Aang. The Fire Lord learns of the defeat, and he appoints his daughter Azula (Summer Bishil) to capture the Avatar.

Wait…. why do the firebenders need to use a close source to create fire? The sun is their source not torches (or whatever those things are) and when Zuko caught Aang and he was “confessing” I expected Aang to say “I’m Sorry” or something, then Zuko would “attack” him, Aang would scream then run away… thats what would happen in the series, close to it anyway…. Also shouldn’t Aang’s tattoos have been glowing when he was in the spirit would? I got all confused on why he was just sitting there xD And when Aang moved that bin with waterbending they should have made Zuko open it then water blast in his face xD I can imagine that happening in the series, plus it would make this a little more entertaining. & The waterbending “movements” bugged me a bit.. theres no kicking, its kinda repetitive (im talking about in the series now =P) and your supposed to shift with the water and become one… or something like that xP Sokka’s “warrior’s wolf tail” might have looked better if it was a bit shorter.

These are just little things that bothered me though, overall it was pretty good, though it could have been better. I would probably watch it again cause it was mildly interesting ^^ & WOOOO! GO IROH!! The first firebender who actually created fire without a source! (in the movie)

  3. AVATARAWESOMENESS:

I’m not a racist person, but I like accuracy. It annoys me that the guy who plays sokka is white, and the guy who plays zuko looks nothing like him.
    Still, AVATAR ROCKS!!

  7. sokka:

ok first in the beginning they were in a boat trying to catch a fish not on a glacier hunting a seal and were is sokka’s boomerang that plastic thing hes carrying around isn’t that little sword thing and it not a super sharp boomerang and katara didnt have her hair loopies, sokkas warriors wolf tail is way shorter than that, zuko was almost bald in the beginning, katar stole that water scroll from pirates it was not given to them by earth bending people, aang got water bending really quickly, and that guy that lead aang into the hall of statues was never in the cartoon and its called the hall a statues for a reason its a hall not some circle room, and aang doesn’t go into the spirit world until later, and not t be mean or anything but they got the color of the peoples skin all wrong zuko is pale and sokka and katara have a tan, uncle is bold on the top of his head and is fat in the first book, fire bender don’t need a source of fire to fire bend they can shoot fire from there figure tips, and gran she had no idea that aang was the avatar until zuko came and told everyone, the fire lord looks nothing like the cartoon fire lord, the blue spirit never had hair and aang’s clothes are all wrong too but other that all that it was ok (o but the one thing i hated the most is how they said “avatar, aang, katara and sokka”)

  8. waterbender!!:

This movie is cheap in antimation. I do not like this movie it is a rip off of the entire avatar seasons by NICK. The bending is terable and i dont understand this in the cartoon all the people are white but in here its like each natioin has a different race. The casting of this is not good Katara cant even pronounce Avatar right. Sokka’s and Anng’s names in this sound weird when they say it. The bending is the most stupidest thing ever its not complicated enough or even strong enough the fire benders should not need a fire supply just to bend. The earth benders should be able to have the earth stay when they bend it not crumble back into the earth like it is weak. I understand that they all were created by watching martial arts but there is way too much action and not enough bending. The people dont even look their part Appa and Momo look like they are just balls of fur. Well i have a lot of more stuff to say but it would take me forever just to type it all.

  9. waterbender!!:

sokka that posted the comment before me has a lot of good points that i did not point out. He or she is smart enough not to fall for this movie maybe it would be a lot better if they didnt have to rush everything maybe make it into seasons, but change the cast please its stupid!!! :P

  11. sokka:

waterbender!! thx for the compliment and u also made good points. so the southern water tribe people didnt see appa ever and the ONLY PERSON WHO LOOKS LIKE THE CARTOON IS AANG but the tattoos are wrong, and appas growl noise thing is weird and not like the cartoon appas noise, then uncle never did that test thing, and gran doesnt have her hair loopies, we never here about hamma untill book 3, GRAN KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE SPRIT WORLD, i really hate what appa and momo looks like they look so fake lol, the bending looks funny especially the airbending, katara and aang never went into that fire nation ship, and aang never made gyatso’s necklace, when aang finds Monk Gyatso hes not in a valley hes in a little house thing and sees him on like a pile of snow plus gyatos’s necklace had 3 circles with the air symbols and then the blue beads, and katara’s little speech thing when he sees gyatos is wrong to, ozia doesnt think that zuko is too soft and since he got banished it will make him strong he banished him because he would fight his dad, ok so when katara gets asserted she is taken to an all metal ships platform thing and its not on the ground, aang and sokka werent in that prison, and katara is the one who gives a speech to the earthbenders in that prison not aang, aang dosent show off that he is the avatar, momos sound is off just likes appas, and the avatra can have a family, and princess yue doesnt lead the northern water tribe he father does hes not dead, and zhao dosent have his huge sideburns :( , and like none of the firenation men dont have top knots, and what r the machines. sorry if its kind of long but there r so many thing wrong with this movie

  12. This Movie Sucks:

Hey, this movie sucks. It doesn’t even resemble the animation. Nothing in this movie matches the animation. Even Appa is horrible. Avatar is the best Kid/Family show that I know of, but this movie makes me want to puke.
